Would you like to learn to make your own diagonal grid for PSP?

Well, actually it's not really a grid, it's a pattern fill, which can be resized like any other pattern fill.   Open a new image, 200x200 pixels, transparent background, 24 bit colour.  Using the Line tool, set to Single Line, Create as Vector, Antialias checked, 5 pixels wide, drag a line from the top left corner to the bottom right corner.  It's okay if you drag outside the box to complete the line, you can use that little extra bit in a second.  Go to Objects/Align/Center in Canvas.  This will exactly center your line along the diagonal center of the square image.

Now grab the line tool again, and with the same settings, drag a line from the top right corner to the bottom left corner (YES, you've just drawn an X!)  Repeat the Objects/Align/Center in Canvas trick.  This should cause both your lines to be perfectly centered in the corners of your square image.

should look like THIS!

NOW you've got an "X" image you can use as a seamless pattern fill!  You can keep it open on your workspace, and use the Colour Palette Styles swatches to set it as the pattern fill, and adjust the scale accordingly.  Since the original X was based on a 200x200 pixel image, if you set the pattern scale to 50%, you should get diagonal squares (or diamonds, I do believe they are properly termed!) which are 100 pixels along the vertical and horizontal axes.

If you want to use this as an alignment tool in PSP, put it on a layer above whatever you are working on.  Reduce opacity as needed, although if you keep it in the .psp format and use it as a pattern fill thusly, you will still maintain the transparency between the lines.

There you go, Butzi, a diagonal grid so you can align objects to your own personal world-view!
